Jesus Sighting

The flight had just landed in Phoenix, and we were “taking caution when we opened the overhead bins” cause, you know, “items tend to shift while in motion.”  And something fell and grazed a woman’s head.

Which no one knew until she screamed, “Jesus, lady, do you see what you did?… Christ!!”

I cringed, and I said a silent prayer that she would know Jesus instead of blame him.

And then Jesus showed up in the form of “lady” (the one ostensibly at fault).  She very gently put her hand on the offended woman’s back, with the kindest smile, completely lacking in her own shame over having caused a problem, concerned only with the woman’s hurt (it seemed), and she said, ever so warmly, “I’m so sorry you’re hurt.”

I realized as I walked away that Jesus’ name had been invoked with wrath, and he’d shown up in love
